Travel Tips

While travelling in Canada

When arriving in Canada, buy insurance as soon as possible. Keep your insurance card with you at all times. Renew your insurance policy a couple of weeks before it expires. Don’t allow yourself to go uninsured while you're in Canada.

Notify Global Excel if your address changes. To do so, please contact us by telephone or e-mail. Refer to the 'Contact Us' section for further information.

To obtain a list of medical clinics in the Montreal area consult : www.santemontreal.qc.ca/

If you need to see a doctor contact Global Excel. We will refer you to the nearest clinic. Keep in mind that you may also have access to doctors at your school or university campus.

To prevent confusion, advise the clinic or doctor prior to your consultation that you have a private health insurance plan and ask them about their billing system. You might be required to pay for your medical services and submit a claim to Global Excel to obtain reimbursement.

Please keep in mind that hospital emergency rooms are to be used in case of emergency only.

Should you travel outside of your province:

  • Keep proof of travel dates: plane tickets, stamped passport.
  • Call Global Excel prior to seeking medical care (we accept collect calls).
  • Should you be hospitalized, bring your medical records back with you.
  • You are covered for accident and sudden illness. If you were sick before leaving or under treatment, these may not be considered as emergencies.
  • Please advise Global Excel whenever you need to see a doctor.
  • We will open a file for you and support you during this critical time.
  • Remember that all non-standard tests have to be pre-approved and that your insurance policy has certain limitations and exclusions.

Please read your insurance policy carefully and contact us if you have any questions.
